The 2004 New Zealand Unclimbed China Expedition.
This expedition turned out to be much more of an adventure than we had intended. Originally we left New Zealand heading for the Lawa valley in Eastern Tibet, just before our arrival in Lhasa we learned that our permits had been revoked due to illegal climbing activities by expeditions already in Tibet. After much umming and ahhing we decided to head for south-west Sichuan and attempt two unclimbed peaks that we had never heard of, in a mountain range we didn't know existed. So we found ourselves making the first attempts on Longemain (6294m) and Daddomain (6380m) which rear above the beautiful Moxi Valley in the Daxue Shan Range. This is an area of beautiful mountains, in particular the incomparable Minya Konka (Gongga Shan), picturesque valleys and wonderful Khampa Tibetan people.
